We do an incredible amount of scientific research and work in international groups on super-intelligent innovations, which are used worldwide. For clean drinking water, for example, because that is of great importance for the world. This importance is growing, because the clean drinking water we have is decreasing every year. That is why we work here on safe and sustainable water solutions. All the research makes Fryslân eminently suitable for conferences and congresses in the field of water technology.

Circular economy

Fryslân's ambition is to become one of the most circular regions in Europe. The province of Fryslân, Frisian companies and residents are committed to creating a circular economy. This involves striving for an economy in which waste does not exist, raw materials are re-used and the environment is spared. Because in Fryslân, we understand very well that a circular economy is important to keep the province healthy and happy, also for in the future. Therefore, the circular economy does not have to be dictated from above here either. Already several years ago, companies took the initiative to establish the association called Vereniging Circulair Friesland. And now there are already almost 200 members: companies, governments and educational institutions that together are committed to a sustainable future.

Sustainable agriculture

Fryslân is the cradle of sustainable agriculture. Not surprisingly, because many Frisian villages and towns have historically grown up around agriculture. You can still see this in the multitude of farms and lands. Here, Frisian farmers have been working for centuries to improve their farming methods, taking into account both the economic and ecological aspects of their business. But of course, the real innovations are not conceived in the fields. They originate in our universities and research facilities, where students, teachers, farmers and companies work together and conduct research. Every day, they work on future-proof dairy farming methods, the circular food chain, soil health and food as medicine.
